IntraVUE
Similar to HiVision, IntraVUE is a package capable of MUCH more but for this post we’re sticking to the topic of mapping. I have never used IntraVUE in production so information below is limited to that provided to me by the original owner in an overview and limited evaluation. I hope to revisit it again soon.
PROs
You can see in the above photo IntraVUE is providing that complete network picture of not just network switches but also the hosts as well. Also the information is DYNAMIC to flag host connectivity as up vs. down etc.
As IntraVUE was not built by nor sold from any individual switch manufacturer, it is vendor-agnostic and will attempt to map the network regardless of whether the vendor is Hirschmann, Cisco, Rockwell, Siemens, etc.
Support for not only basic flat networks but also:
Multiple VLAN Architectures
non-routable networks
Assets in PLC I/O networks with duplicate IP addresses
Additional Notes
I asked the IntraVue folks about switch vendor coverage and they claimed “100%.” Being a bit skeptical I picked a switch at random off my lab wall, a Lantronix managed switch and unfortunately IntraVue was unable to map it. Upon further investigation they said the way the Lantronix reported back data on a specific OID was at issue. I fully expected this type of “disconnect” (although not necessarily that we would hit it on first attempt - that was pure luck / bad luck), but it certainly helped illustrate the point that while vendor agnosticism should typically be a good thing, it can also mean games of whack-a-mole as the software vendor tries to keep up with changes made by the switch vendor which can be a frustrating experience for all involved. This isn’t an IntraVue con, more a general and in my experience expected con of the situation of your mapping vendor and switch vendor not being in lock-step.
I first encountered IntraVUE 10+ years ago when a major food and beverage company was evaluating it against HiVision for deployment at several plants. I didn’t get a chance to use the software and then lost track of it when it sold to Panduit for a few years. I was contacted by its’ owner who had taken it back from Panduit and to sell independently again but ran into confusion around the commercial and technical support model etc. that forced me to pause evaluation.
As of November 4, 2025 it has changed hands to new owners Pronetiqs. I am in contact with the new owners and hope to find a time to re-evaluate the platform soon.
